A good day!

Today I feel soooo much better! I guess most of you don't know but I had surgery on Tuesday. I had my gallbladder removed because of gallstones. Gallstones are very painful, so I'm glad to be done with that. So the last few days, I've been realy sore and hardly able to move, but today is a new day! I feel so much better and I'm actually able to movie around quite easily. So here I am watching movies and catching up on my internet correspondence.

Well Merry Christmas to everyone!

Update on me, :)

Ok, so some of you may be wondering, what ever happened to Melissa? Well, I've converted to Myspace However, so many of you don't have Myspace, or haven't had the chance to request to be my friend.

So the last six or so months have been quite a journey for me as a musician and as a person.

Musically, I have had some amazing experiences and I've learned so much about opera and music. I have been stretched beyond my wildest dreams at San Jose State. I feel very lucky to be near such a great music program.  I have been in the chorus for two operas; Stravinsky's "Rake's Progress" and Verdi's "Macbeth." I learned so much about the process of putting on an opera and now have so much more appreciation for opera than I ever did. I participated and still do in the Opera Workshop at my school. In this class we work with a very talented conductor and stage director to put on scenes from various operas and operettas. Short one act operas. This spring we will be renting a theater and putting on two American operas. In one of them I will be playing a supporting role. My voice has grown and matured by leaps and bounds and next semester, I will be giving a junior recital.

In our marriage, James and I just celebrated our three year anniversary and we're still acting like newly weds. We just hosted our first Thanksgiving and it was such a blast. I am convinced that I am the luckiest woman in the world.

Physically, I've been doing great! I've lost over 80 lbs, just look at my pics and I have much more energy than ever. And emotionally too, I've been addressing those issues that made me want to eat in the first place, and I'm finding I have a closer connection with God and my life is generally more balanced. We've now lived in our house for a year and its looking like a home. I'm so happy with how everything is looking and we're finally settling in, you know how that goes, it takes forever to really get EVERYTHING unpacked.

Spiritually, James and I have been involved in a church plant for a church called MallChurch. It's really, as some would say, avant gard, really new (old) ideas about how church works. We are currently a network of small churches. We each have our small churches and then meet on Sunday for team building social time. I love it and I've grown so much in my leadership and a lot of my views have changed. It's weird sometimes, not having a traditional type church to attend every Sunday morning; but, I like it. My view of God has become much more balanced and I've become closer to him. He's definitely changing me little by little and I'm glad.

I'm blessed with so many wonderful friends and family. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving!

Family

In less than a week, I will be in Ohio visiting my family!! Yeayyyyyyyy! I'm so happy to be able to see my family again, I love them so much. Because I love them, I am going to write just a little blurb about each one of them, starting with my parents and working my way out.

Mom: I love my mom. I love talking to my mom, wanna know why? Because, my mom is funny, but mostly, she's full of wisdom and she's not afraid to give me a kick in the pants if I'm being a brat. I really miss that. So many people are afraid to tell you the truth to your face, but my mom always lets me know. James really likes my mom too, because you would think that she would always take my side, but she doesn't. She helps me to be a better wife. Ok, so that was a pretty long blurb, but we've always been like best friends.

Dad: I love my dad. I love his quiet strength. He's a leader, but a quiet one, leading by example. He always was ready to let me make mistakes and never tried to tell me what to do. My dad is VERY wise. But, you have to ask him questions. He will not give you advice unless you ask for it. So, if you are ever lucky enough to get my dad one on one, be sure to ask his advice and view on whatever is bothering you. He is also a very loving man. He loves sooo much, but, he is still quiet, he shows love instead of talking about it. He is a man of substance.

Stephen: I love my lil' bro. And he goes first because I don't get to see Thomas on this trip. Stephen is a mighty warrior for God. He is also very loving. It is so nice to be an older sibling, because you get to have someone look up to you and admire you so very blindly. I tried to be a good example for Stephen and brain wash him as much as possible. Now, I look up to Stephen. I look at his passion for God. He is not ashamed of his beliefs, he is not apologetic. And, he happens to be a very talented poet. He reminds me much of King David in the Old Testament, very passionate, emotional and poetic. I love his smile. Stephen will go very far with whatever he decides to do.

Thomas: I love my Bubba. I call him bubba because he's by big bro and he's hairy . Thomas is a born leader. If you ask him, he doesn't want to lead, but he can't help it. He's such a cool guy that everyone wants to follow him wherever he goes. He's also the best dad I've ever seen. He's so devoted to his son and they are so cute together. I just know that Eden's going to grow up a clone of Thomas. Thomas is also a VERY gifted drummer, which only adds to his coolness factor, he's also really laid back which is great. It really balances me out because I'm not. I think he got all the laid back genes and I got the up tight ones. oh well.

Teresa: I love my sister in law. She quickly became a confidant for me and a go to for advice. She's the sister I never had. She's loving, funny and a great cook. So is Thomas by the way. She's also a great and loving mom. I'm so glad that Thomas married her instead of some other chick. She's supportive of Thomas' dreams and music which is very important and she fits into the family so well. She is so sweet and a gifted painter/artist. I have one of her paintings on my wall in the bedroom. She made it for me for Christmas, which makes her a mind reader on top of everything, because that's exactly what I wanted.

Eden: I love my little nephew. He is quite the character, and if you have read this far, then you get the friend of the year award, or you're in my family. He came out of the womb drumming. I think he got his sense of rhythm from all the drumming he heard from inside mommy's belly. He's a smart little guy and quite the charmer. I don't get to see him nearly enough, so I don't know much more. However, when I saw him at Christmas, he was so quick to love. After a few days, I came downstairs and he ran up to me and threw his arms around my legs with all his little might. He's so cute.

Ok, well I really wanted to cover my grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins, but I think I've written enough. I will have to post more later....

Busy, busy, busy

Well, the last two weeks have been very very busy! Last weekend, the choir joined up with Symphony Silicon Valley and Symphony Chorale to perform the Mozart Requiem. We performed on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Also, this past weekend, on Friday night, 16 of us from SJSU concert choir and Symphony Chorale were asked to sing at Video Games Live, a live orchestral/choral performance of scores from various video games such as Halo, Warcraft, Myst, etc. For more info, check out the website http://www.videogameslive.com

WHEW, it was so busy rehearsing for two concerts at once, now that's all done and we're leaving tomorrow for Cabo, Mexico. Yeay, spring break! I'm very excited because this is the first time since learning Spanish, that I'm going to a Spanish speaking country. Plus, I've always loved Mexico. More to come...
